To Be or Not to Be?

When we are introduced to new concepts, our mind tends to seek out ways to dismiss the idea. Automatically, we think of reasons why this cannot possibly be true. Of course, we all know that if one pushes hard enough every statement a person makes can falter under scrutiny. However, the very beliefs to which we currently subscribe which we have not subjected to the same scrutiny will also falter. The question is not to ask whether something is true or false, right or wrong, good or bad. The questions to ask are:

Does this work better for my life than what I am presently using?
Does this work better for my family’s life than what I am presently using?
Does this work better for my community’s existence than what I am presently using?
Does this work better for my state’s existence than what I am presently using?
Does this work better for my country’s existence than what I am presently using?

If the answer is yes, use it. If not, don’t waste your time and energy judging it, because it may be useful to you at a later time.

Mental chatter is our internal dialog which is ongoing in our heads at all times. We believe we’re given a set of facts that is our reality but this is NOT really the case. Be aware that we have mental chatter and that this voice inside our head is NOT us but a construct of our wandering minds. Does this voice ever talk down to us, challenge our abilities, self-esteem and limit us in a world of infinite possibilities? Once we recognize this fact we can realize our mental chatter is very dysfunctional and often works against us to limit our greatest potential.

Our mental model is our belief system of how the world works. One must know that this is not necessarily how the world works but how our experiences have taught us that the world works, a perception built by our minds.

Most of our habits find us living in a me centered universe, interpreting things in terms of “What affect does this have on me?” Living in this universe guarantees you your share of life’s pain and suffering. Increasing your life’s fulfillment begins when you design your life to seek answers to the questions which bring a greater good to your family, community, state and/or country.

The good news is that once you recognize this, it is not that hard to make a shift.

"You are what your deep, driving desire is.
As your desire is, so is your will.
As your will is, so is your deed.
As your deed is, so is your destiny."

Brihadaranyaka Upanishad
